Of course I have not been born as Charly Lownoise; my real name is Ramon Rollfs or Roelofs, and I was born in The Hague (NL) on the 17th of June 1968 as child of a 20-year old men’s clothing salesman and a 21-year old housewive. Probably I inherited the passion for music from my father: he played in a rock band back then.By the way: the strange double surname is the consequence of a writing error at the City Hall of a place in the Netherlands called Gouda, some 150 years ago.

My time at school
I was tested for Mavo / LTS in primary school. By that time I was already involved with music so that’s why I chose the Technical School. Because of the upcoming computer era I specialized in Electrotechnics from 3rd class up. Without to much trouble I joined the MTS after this (this is a somewhat higher level of Technical School in Holland), but this didn’t turn out to be a big succes: due to some personal problems I quit this education in the middle of the second year. One thing became very clear during my time at school: I’m not a “study”-like person. I spent most of my time during lessons talking with fellow classmates about turntables, mixers and building of radiotransmitters, instead of giving attention to the lessons.Meanwhile I had some part time work (I had for example delivered the The Hague news paper and also distributed flyers!); with this money I bought my first records and equipment. After that I have enrolled myself with the marine corr. Onboard of ship HMS. Tromp I have completed my study in Electrotechnics and also travelled across Europe for about 2 years.I used this time to try to get a hold of what I wanted to achieve in life. The conclusion was very clear: Firstly to put everything in to become a very succesful DJ, and secondly to start my own recordlabel!
